School Open on Thursday, January 8th
Jan 08, 2015

Dear MSLF Community,

As you know, we can expect to continue to see fairly severe weather tomorrow and possibly for the rest of the week. Many schools will close, especially public schools, which must monitor the safety of students who walk to school or wait for buses. The Montessori School of Lake Forest will be open on Thursday, January 8th.

However, the forecasted conditions may pose danger not only of frostbite, but also of brittle tires and slick road surfaces and poor visibility due to wind and snowfall during the afternoon.

I urge you to decide independently whether or not you will come to school tomorrow. I know that some of you who live far away will not make the trip, and some of you whose workplaces will not close will need to bring your children to school. Some employees’ children will be home because their public schools will be closed. This means that some classrooms may be short staffed. But, barring unforeseen emergency, we will be open, and staffed to the best of our ability.

Best wishes to all of you as we learn to adapt to severe weather, and stay safe!

Age 6 and age 12 in Montessori are referred to as the capstone years. During these years children really dive into big work and develop their self-confidence.
