Nature Journaling Bird Walk with MSLF
May 12, 2020

A welcome sign of spring in the Midwest are birds, returning to the feeders in our backyards, or migrating back to our area for breeding before the cold weather returns. We are lucky to have a wide variety of birds where we live! Recently, Outdoor Classroom Director Julia Lunn took us on an early morning Nature Journaling Bird Walk at Middlefork Savanna, right next to the MSLF campus. Nature Journaling is a regular activity for Elementary students at MSLF, going out onto our own 5.5 acres to explore nature with their senses, and journaling about their observations and experiences.

Have you noticed the birds around your house or on your nature walks? Watch this video , then download this checklist of area birds and count how many you can find when you go out exploring!

Age 6 and age 12 in Montessori are referred to as the capstone years. During these years children really dive into big work and develop their self-confidence.
